Hello wonderful parents and guardians of Notre Dame, 

I thank you all for the smooth transition over the last few days and I welcome Ms. Julia Ingersoll to the Scholarship Family! I am sending an update early this week due to some time sensitive requests. Please read carefully (yes, there is A LOT): 


San Diego Zoo Field Trip
Monday, June 11

  • Depart school at 8:45 am (Notified and trained chaperones arrive at 8:15 am)
  • Arrive back at 2:30 pm
  • Dress Code: Notre Dame shirt and jeans, or SPCS uniform, comfortable shoes, sunglasses and hats welcome (do note: we are not responsible for lost items). 
  • Please put sunscreen on your scholar before they arrive to school. We are unable to do so.
  • Sack Lunch and Snack: Please remember to order a cold lunch before 6 pm Thursday, June 7 from Top Notch OR pack a sack lunch (no lunchboxes will be taken). If possible please send an extra snack. There are water fountains in the park, scholars will not be allowed to bring personal water bottles, unless packed for their lunch and will be disposed of after. 
  • ALL Parent Chaperones have been contacted to confirm, thank you to those that were available, but unfortunately I could only take 5
  • For those who need to be trained: Friday sessions, 7:30-7:50 am or 3:30-3:50 pm in room 102

  • LAST CALL for those interested in chaperoning.Confirmed chaperones will be notified by this Friday.
  • If unable to bring a sack lunch from home, please contact Ms. Douglass ASAP. 

Engineering Challenges
Tuesday, June 12-Friday, June 15 Notre Dame will be participating in Engineering Challenges with various grade levels. Please donate any of the following:  2 liter plastic bottles, water bottles, cardboard boxes, paper plates, paper, Popsicle sticks, wooden skewers, bubble wrap, newspaper
These materials will not be returned and will help scholars build their project!

Hello everyone, 

There are 23 days of school left! TWENTY-THREE days until your first graders are second graders. Amazing! They continue to work hard and impress me every day. We are wrapping up our plant and animal unit on life cycles and survival. I'm sure they have all shared with you the incredible process of an egg, to caterpillar, to butterfly. I have been in awe myself!

SPRING PERFORMANCE: If you are available to help with the Spring Dance and Theatre Showcase please sign-up:

All Musical Theatre and Dance Scholars:

All Musical Theatre students and Dance students: Your spring Musical will be performed at the QLN Ballroom on Monday, May 21 at 6:30 pm. All scholars involved will need to be at QLN by 4:00 pm on May 21.

All Dance students: Your spring dance show will be performed at the QLN ballroom on Tuesday, May 22 at 6:30 pm. All scholars involved will need to be at QLN by 4:00 pm on May 22.

FIELD TRIP 
Monday, June 11, 2018 Notre Dame IS travelling to the San Diego Zoo for their final field trip on Animal Survival and Camouflage. We are asking for a $15-20 donation for the bus transportation and the tram ride, but the entry fee is free!! Please watch for the permission slip and chaperone interest form-- They both went out today!!

Chaperoning: If interested in chaperoning please let me know asap. Filling out the form does not guarantee you a spot, but rather puts you in the lottery to be chosen. You'll need to take Dr. Beam volunteer training before chaperoning. 

Scholar Lunch: The day off the trip scholars will need a sack/plastic bag lunch that can be thrown away after. If you plan to order the school sack lunch, please let me know now. 

SPCS FIELD DAY, 
Thursday, June 21

Scholars will be rotating through several outdoor stations with relay races, water games, and more! 

Notre Dame will need 2 or more volunteers. Please let me know if you would be available for a morning or afternoon shift.

Pep Rally: Reading Room Celebration and Appreciation
Monday, May 7, 2018 there will be a special pep rally for the scholars to show celebration and appreciation of the Reading Room
Notre Dame was selected to perform the song "Reading" to the tune of "Happy" by Pharrell Williams. Please see the video here. Also, here are the words if they'd like to practice at home this weekend! THEY CAN'T WAIT TO SHINE!
Dress Code--Scholarship Prep uniform "professional dress" is required
Please ensure that scholars are here and on time next Monday

April Winner: Notre Dame!!! Great work everyone
Notre Dame earned a Popsicle party for being the top winner in the school with 322 box tops!
Please continue to collect the box tops for May, June, and through out the summer. 

Gardening
If you haven't heard already, Notre Dame is participating in a final mini-PBL project where they are learning about life-cycles of plants and animals. We are fortunate enough to have had several grapevines, milkweed, and various plants donated to us by a local greenhouse. With the help of our school's gardening volunteer, we have planted a "Circle of Life" and began planting several trees out in the village.

Hi everyone, 

I hope you have had a wonderful week! Thank you all who volunteered their time, purchased, books, and donated books for the Scholastic Book Fair. We had a wonderful turnout and great success!

Happy Friday! Some quick news, updates, and reminders: 

Open House, Wednesday, April 18, 5:30-6:30 pm   room 102
SPCS Student Store will be open Friday, April 20 *Make sure that scholars bring their SUCCESS TICKETS to school that day*
Lunch Payment Invoices went out today please look in your scholar's homework folder
Lunch Order Reminders: If you need any assistance ordering lunches, Kathleen Reyes (Scholarship's Lunch Lead) is available to help you here at school between 10-2 Monday-Friday. Unfortunately as a school the company only provides a few "emergency" lunches, so we need to ensure that meals are ordered by parents/guardians ahead of time by 6 pm the previous day.

Hello scholars and families of Notre Dame,

I hope you all had a relaxing and fun Spring Break! Our Second Trimester PBL Showcase was an incredible success. Thank you, all, who were able to attend and watch the scholars in action. If you did not see by now, the Friday before Spring Break the Notre Dame scholars received their 2nd trimester report cards. We will be celebrating all of their success very soon, so please save the date and watch out for individual invitations!
