The Scholars/Team Members of Team Notre Dame had some amazing questions for our guest speaker, Mr. Roger Kube! Roger has been the president of Surfrider Foundation SD. He developed a program called the Tijuana River Clean Up, and has helped to get 5 ordinances passed through the city of San Diego. He helped implement the plastic bag ban for 5 different cities in SD County, and even got the final vote written on the ballot! He was able to speak to the kids about Surfrider Foundation's mission. He also taught them the steps it takes to create policies! He was such a huge inspiration to our amazing students! Plus, this was a great addition to our current PBL unit!

In honor of Read Across America, our Team created their own book projects and shared their love of reading with the class. They rated their books overall from 1-10, encouraging others to go out and read the book! Team Notre Dame has a new list of MUST reads! We heard from all different genres! There was a lot of fantasy/fiction, a few realistic fiction, and some historical non-fiction memoirs. We heard stories of survival from the Holocaust, and an escape from China, as well as heroes, villains, animals and much more! It was a true joy to see them be SO excited about their reading. Way to go Notre Dame!
Gavin's Red Pyramid book was a hit! His actual pyramid prop was edible, made of rice krispy treats!!! Brynn broke down the Tiers of Society on her box project! She encouraged every student to go out and read her book that she rated a definite 10!
Quincy's memoir read was a fascinating tale of perseverance. We were all intrigued by The Girl With Seven Names. The journey is one that can give us all perspective on life. Quincy encouraged many to read this next with his high rating! Group discussions were had, questions were asked, and a lot of brain picking. It was so much fun to deep dive into their books/genres of choice! So proud of them for continuing to read, read, read, until they found the genre they love!
Wow! I am absolutely thrilled to be a member of the Team here at Scholarship Prep Charter School this year! Working in a school with such a clear and innovative mission, is a dream come true for me. I was born and raised in the Sunshine State of Florida, where I earned my Master's Degree in Elementary Education. I grew up in a family of educators, particularly taking after my mom who taught 5th grade for nearly 30 years. After completing my MA, my husband and I moved to Colorful Colorado, where I taught at a Montessori School in Breckenridge. While I loved the mountain life, and the thrill of adventure that came with the high altitude living, there was always something missing for me there. I truly believe that missing link, was teaching for a school like SPCS. Living in Sunny San Diego had been a dream of mine since childhood. I have been drawn to the ocean since the moment we met; growing up a highly competitive swimmer gave me a confidence in the water that is unparalleled to anything else. After three years in the cold, we knew it was time to pack up the cars, our cat, and continue on west. San Diego has given me so much to be grateful for, and I feel truly lucky to have found a place so stunning to call home. I love teaching with every ounce of my being. I believe that every single child deserves a great education, and a teacher that is willing to give them the tools they need for success. I make it my top priority to understand each and every one of my students, and to establish a genuine, respectful connection with them. While teaching curriculum is my jam, I also believe that we come to school to learn about relationships, human connections, leadership, team work, and friendship. I believe in creating a classroom environment that thrives on kindness. To me, kindness is the difference that can unknowingly change someone's life. When I am not here at school, you can find me doing something active in the ocean, running the 101, road tripping for snow, hiking, or reading at home with my husband, and our cat, Belize. Also, traveling is my all time favorite. Thank you for entrusting me with your amazing children this year. I cannot wait for us all to grow together. Go Team Notre Dame!
